Growing up in the 90s I’d always been drawn to the more epic sounds of Sasha and Digweed, huge drops and massive builds, but on every night out, it was always the back rooms that pulled me in. Soul, Funk and Disco in sweaty basements and courtyards away from the big flashing lights and white shirts.
I’ve always loved all things soulful but it took a chance encounter at the Southport Weekender to realise it was Disco that held the draw for me. A DJ I’d never heard of playing 2 hours of full on disco I’d never heard of to a packed, sweaty dance floor of smiling faces. It was different to the house crowd but I can’t explain how. Since then I’ve been addicted!
A perfect love affair…..
