Tempo O'Neil is an established singer, and started out in reggae sound systems from age 14. His early experience started with smaller sound systems and built up to Unity Sound with Demon Rocker and Flinty Badman (Shut Up & Dance) to singing for Saxon sound system as ‘Sugar Brown’, touring countries and cities in the UK & Jamaica. He would feature and perform amongst top artists such as Maxi Priest, Smiley Culture, Tipper Ire, Papa Levi, and Daddy Colonel & Sandy.

Tempo embraced the different elements of music by later working with live musicians, which led him to moving into different genres. Having always had a varied musical outlook and listening to styles from a soulful edge to the reggae sound, he evolved into the dance music scene from the early days of acid house.

He has worked with record labels like Big City & Brain Records. His 1st release was on a track as lead vocalist was Marvellous Cain “Everyday Jungliest” on the Macca label which was a classic and led to him working with Sound of the Underground (S.O.U.R.) with producers Shy FX & UK Apache. Around this time, he also worked heavily with producers at State 51 studios, which lead to his release with “You’re My Inspiration”, a UK Garage track, produced by Ty Holden, with remixes by Tuff Jam, who also produced “Keep Holdin”, where he also featured as lead vocalist. This kept Tempo moving from studio to studio and various record labels like London Connection, Bagley’s Studios, to Cross tracks label & Zomba records.

From working in different recording studios around London as a singer, he took these experiences and began producing his own music. Other developments would change his thinking after a chance meeting with singer/producer Carl MacIntosh of (Loose ends) whom was a major influence and inspiration to work with. By watching him work with so many great artists and producers, it reinforced the logic for Tempo to progress by producing more of his own projects, after seeing how the smaller labels evolved.

He has also performed around Europe with some of house music’s greats, like Robert Owens & Marshall Jefferson, which also gave him more belief to start his own record label Liberation Party. Watch out for new releases under Project 16.

Reflecting on the different genres of music that I have listened to through my childhood, has inspired me to become a singer and artist, to this day. Original Rhythm and blues to blue beat Reggae, some people may not like house music which I love and this music’s history comes from Soul, gospel, jazz, African and my touches my roots of Reggae. I’m an original Sound man that’s still living and creating black music for all to listen and hopefully enjoy, so catch my show fortnightly between 12:00-14:00 GMT on Sundays.
