Mannie Amadu (AKA ThePurpleBengaless), is a young up and coming DJ/Producer among other things. His music tastes mainly evolve around old school Drum n Bass, Jungle and old school Dubstep but he has a wide appreciation of other genres which he finds inspiration from. His main musical influences are James Blake, Photek and Peshay, although there are many more such as Serum, DjHazard and Heist. "I do like a sneaky little bit of jump up Drum and Bass". "On the dubstep scene, artists such as Mala, Skream and Benga are highly inspirational to me and of course you have people such as Deadmau5 on the electronic side".

His love for music began from a very young age as his mum was very much into music, especially classical which has naturally given him a love an appreciation of classical music and the instruments. His love of Drum n Bass came from a Ski camp that he attend as a young child where one of the instructors used to play many a jump up tune! "One day he played Spacehopper by Macky gee and I was hooked; I went home that night to search up more tracks, soon discovering tracks such as Transition also by Macky gee and Gold Dust by Shy Fx". Over the years artists such as Jayline, Serum, Heist and of course DJ Hazard became favourites.

Over the years he discovered artists such as Peshay, LTJ Bukem and of course, Photek. Photek’s track Fusion was a ground breaking track for Mannie as the track stands out as his true introduction to Drum n Bass music.  Artists such as New Jazz Hustlers, Intense, Tango, Alex Reece and Nebula introduced him to the Jazz, and bass elements of the genre which heavily influenced him.

Mannie finally got his hands on a set of decks, as he felt the urge to become a DJ and started experimenting by mixing Riddim, Dubstep and Jump Up Drum n Bass. He later developed a love for ‘old School’ Drum n Bass through a Youtube Video, Why All My HomiesHate Skrillex. From there, it was a deep dive into the genre and a swift discovery of a real love for James Blake’s music.

Through a music workshop in Reading, Mannie met a great mentor Pete Doyle who saw his love and passion for music together with his incredible DJ skills, so introduced him to Gold Dust family!

Mannie gives thanks to Pete for believing in him, and we are thankful for the introduction as he now hosts his own show on GDR "Astral Ambience Sessions" Wednesdays 19:00-21:00 GMT.
