For over a decade Holdin’ Court have been running independent, grassroots Hip-Hop, Funk and Soul events in the South East and London. As part of a series, they will be releasing exclusive mixes for GDR by members of their collective. First up is Tony Rosie.
Tony Rosie plays an eclectic mix of Funk, Soul, Hip-Hop, Neo Soul, Nu-Jazz, Jazz, Disco and Ambient. He demonstrates a deep understanding of music and rhythm due to his Cape Verdian roots.
He has DJ'd in the fashionable bars of Bairro Alto, Lisbon and London where he now resides. Tony Rosie is a DJ who has quickly gained his place on the London scene. He has played alongside Jazzie B on a regular basis as well as spots with the likes of Jerry Dammers (The Specials), Ashley Beedle, Prime Cuts (Scratch Perverts), Barrie Sharpeye, DJ Thor, MotoDj, Chris P Cuts, Bobby Tank, and Ayplan.
Tony progressed to radio where he held a residency on “Invader FM” in Bristol, and he won the award of “Best New Radio Show”. He also holds a residency on Itch FM. He was also the co-founder of the collective, Phono & Stereo, and held a residency at The Social for the weekly Hip-Hop night "Vesuvio".
